The connection between a home not guarded by a lit pumpkin and the dark world are clear, so it‘s imperative that you learn how to carve a pumpkin immediately. Start by gathering a kitchen knife, some newspapers, a candle, and one or more pumpkins.
Picking the pumpkin is a fairly important endeavor. From tiny pumpkins to giant versions and everything in between, the options for buying pumpkins never have been greater. Do you have a preference?
It‘s not unusual for individuals to purchase one pumpkin for each member of the family. Roughly correlate the size of the pumpkin with the size of the family member for whom it was purchased. Out of respect, if nothing else, the largest pumpkin should represent Dad.

The newspaper is essential because removing seeds from the pumpkin often is a messy affair. Newspaper is cheap, so lay out plenty of it to protect your carpet from potential stains generated by pumpkin juice.
Now, cut a circular hole in the top of the pumpkin. With one hand, grab and remove all seeds and other material within the pumpkin. Next, carve out the pumpkin’s eyes, nose, and a mouth. You can be creative, but most people simply use triangles for the eyes and nose, and give mouths a few square teeth. Finally, put the lit candle in the pumpkin before the evil spirits come, and now, thank heaven, you know how to carve a pumpkin!
