Carving Horn

Is carving bone different than carving horn.?
I am trying to carve a maori hook necklace. I know that bone is mostly calcium and horn is keratin, but will the carving process and end result be pretty much the same for both?
from my experience mostly yes
the bone is a little more sensitive and can be pliable sometimes if not completely dry
but if your using a cooked bone and its sun dried hard then it behaves more like horn
