Carving Sea Shells

One of the delights of Costa Blanca holidays is the opportunity to construct a memorable sandcastle that will be the envy of all the other holidaymakers that see it.
Sand castle building is enjoyed everywhere on the world’s beaches, whether you’re on Spain holidays or Costa Blanca holidays. Wherever in the world you are, you’ll see families armed with buckets and spades planning their perfect palace. But as often as not, their efforts end in disappointment when their castle collapses in a heap or the wet sand sticks stubbornly to the inside of the bucket.
The most successful sand castle builders are those individuals who appreciate the science behind the endeavour. Water joins the individual grains of sand together, linking them and allowing them to be compacted into solid blocks.
Costa Blanca holidays are a great place to start building castles. The fine sand particles bind together tightly provided you don’t add too much water to the mix. You’ll also need a long-handled spade for all that digging a little easier, a bucket or two for mixing and carrying water, and tools for carving.
The siting of your castle is of the utmost importance as you don’t want to build it too near the sea as the tide might come in and if you’re too far away, it will be arduous to keep going and collecting the water. When the site has been chosen, use the spade to dig deeply down until you hit water, which can be used for the moat, as well as the sand and water mixture and the excavated sand will be the base of the castle. Get a bucket and half fill with sand and then top up with water and mix throroughly. You’ll need to make quite a few of these bricks which can be grouped tightly together for stability. The finale of the castle build is the carving of elaborate designs on the walls and adorning it with shells and small flags. Once your castle is complete, there are loads of other brilliant beach activities for you to try on your holidays. Why not break out the beach volleyball or play Frisbee?.
