More and more people are suffering from one food allergy or the other. Many of these people have tried to treat these allergies as separate conditions. Doctors and other medical professionals have always disputed these facts and it was not till recently that they embraced it. In 1986 in the Annual Congress of the American College of Allergy, one of the delegates pointed out the relationship between the two. Since then doctors have accepted these findings and are realizing that they could be related to their guts. The gut is responsible for several things among them being responsible for 80 percent of the immune system and digestion of foods. Once these functions are compromised, an allergic reaction occurs. The realization of the link between the gut and common food allergies has led to many people being taken into the Leaky Gut Syndrome treatment plan.
So what are common food allergies? These are allergic reactions to some types of foods. The gut has a function of absorption of digested foods and keeping out any undigested food and other harmful substances. A leaky gut is characterized by the gut being unable to perform this function effectively. Undigested foods get absorbed into the bloodstream. These undigested foods are considered harmful by the body and get tagged by the immune system as harmful. Every time these foods get ingested and touch the gut lining, an immune reaction is triggered as the body tries to eliminate the threat. This immune reaction is mainly in the form of inflammations.
Leaky Gut Syndrome diet involves the determination of these foods that contain the allergens. These food types are eliminated from the diet because even the least of inflammations may undo the whole healing process. The process of determining these allergy foods should be closely monitored by a nutritionist or other medical professional. This is because it is very easy to confuse between sensitivity and allergy.
