Perfect Summer Treats – Two Things You Don’t Want To Miss

Having fun in the summer doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. There are so many different simple summer pleasures to be had. Let me list a few of them for you.

Sitting on the front porch with a nice tall glass of ice tea watching traffic go by.

Get out the old hammock and hang it up in the backyard under a tree. Read a trashy novel or just catch a nap.

Watching the kids splash around in a kiddie pool or any old container you can fill up with water. Don’t have one of those laying around? Pick up a few water balloons instead and let them have fun in the driveway.

Dig out all those fun and comfortable summer clothes like sun dresses, pretty sandals, shorts and tank tops.

Making peach ice cream with the kids and enjoying it as a perfect summer treat. If you have one of those old-fashioned hand cranked ice cream makers all the better. It’ll keep the kids busy for a good half an hour to 45 minutes. Scoop the ice cream into bowls, hand everyone a spoon and enjoy right on the front porch, the back yard, or wherever you decided to make this creamy treat.

Having a picnic outside with plenty of lemonade, watermelon and of course some yummy sandwiches to fill you up.

Get the kids into bathing suits, add some sun screen, grab your camera and then turn on the sprinklers. I’m willing to bet you’ll put aside the camera and jump into your own bathing suit after a few minutes.

Take the kids swimming to the same pool, pond, lake or beach you went to as a kid.

Check your local paper and websites and find a free outdoor concert to go to. Grab a blanket, some cold sodas and pack a picnic dinner to enjoy while you’re listening to the band.

For summer reading time with the kids, throw an old comforter and some pillows in the backyard. Just hang out with the kids and a few good books under the shade of the trees.

Find a local orchard and see what’s in season. Spend the day picking produce and thinking of all the delicious things you can make with them from jellies and jams to frozen fruit smoothies.

Pack up the family and go on a road trip. Create a scrapbook or memory box of the trip to cherish in the cold winter months.

Catch some fireflies in the back yard right before bedtime. Let the kids keep the jar full of the little bugs overnight. They make a fun night light. Don’t forget to release them in the morning. Or just step in the yard after dark and watch them fly around.

Make a batch of pancakes for breakfast and top them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, some chocolate syrup and of course a cherry on top. I’m sure your kids will love these pancake Sundays.

Last but not least, plan a trip to the beach, even if it’s just for the day. There’s nothing like sticking your toes in the sand and watching the waves roll in while your kids are busy making a sand castle.
