Choosing Wood Outdoor Furniture Easily

Your outdoor living space can be nothing but completely dull and boring with the absence of outdoor furniture. Wood, wrought-iron and concrete are the common materials of outdoor furniture today. The most attractive and common kind is wood. This is true because of its proven grace and durability especially when taken with care and maintenance. This is not to mention the relaxing and cozy ambiance wood outdoor furniture can give to your outdoor space through its warm tones. With the wide variety of wood outdoor furniture in the market today, it is important to be able to choose the right one for you. Here are the good points you may want to consider when choosing your own wood outdoor furniture.

Style. Decide on the style you desire first. Wood outdoor furniture can range from rustic, to simple, to Victorian, to contemporary, to elegant. The furniture style should of course involve the overall design and materials used for its creation. There are a wide variety of designs to choose from so ensure you choose the furniture that will complement the existing décor you have.

Material. There are different wood types available that are used for wood outdoor furniture. They are teak wood, cedar wood, hickory wood, and bamboo. Each of these wood types differs from each other when it comes to their characteristic, most specially when speaking of looks and sturdiness. Teak and cedar are durable, naturally oily woods that repel insects and last a long time. The color of teak is light grain but as it ages, it can turn into something like silvery gray. Brown or purple is cedar’s shade and ages into a darker shade of brown. Hickory is a flexible wood that becomes rigid and strong when formed into furniture. Same as the teak, it is a light grain color when young and becomes silvery gray over time. The best thing about all these wood types is that they can all stand any kind of weather.

Maintenance. Outdoor furniture need to be maintained to keep it looking its best. Just oil them out of season or wipe them with moist cloth. Through oiling out of season, the oil is absorbed by the wood making them more durable and stronger. You can also try washing them up with soap and water but make sure they are not finished as the finishing will be removed. You can also just let them look naturally and wait until it colors like silvery gray by not applying finishes or oil on them.

Whatever type of wood outdoor furniture you decide on, comfort should still be a primary consideration. You will be spending a lot of time lounging on your furniture so make sure you’re comfortable with cushions, armrests, backrests and the like.
