Choosing Wood Outdoor Furniture Easily

Your outdoor living space can be nothing but completely dull and boring with the absence of outdoor furniture. They come in materials like, wood, wrought-iron, plastic and even concrete. Wood is especially popular when it comes to outdoor furniture. This is true because of its proven grace and durability especially when taken with care and maintenance. This is not to mention the relaxing and cozy ambiance wood outdoor furniture can give to your outdoor space through its warm tones. However, with the countless selections of wood outdoor furniture available in the market these days, finding the right one becomes a challenge. Here are the good points you may want to consider when choosing your own wood outdoor furniture.

Style. Decide on the style you desire first. Wood outdoor furniture can range from rustic, to simple, to Victorian, to contemporary, to elegant. Style mainly hinges on the materials used and the overall design of the furniture. One good tip when choosing the furniture design is to make sure that your choice suits your present outdoor decoration.

Material. As to materials, four different wood types are used in making wood furniture. Cedar, teak, hickory, oak and bamboo are the usual types. These wood types have different characteristics in appearance and durability so it’s important you know what these are. If you want something durable enough and can fend off insects, teak and cedar is a good pick. Teak is a light grain color that ages to silvery gray. Cedar is a brown or purple color that age to a darker brown. Though hickory is flexible, you may be surprised knowing it becomes firm and durable when shaped into furniture. In terms of color and appearance, it is very much similar to teak. The best thing about all these wood types is that they can all stand any kind of weather.

Maintenance. Same with indoor furniture, maintenance should likewise be observed in outdoor furniture too to maintain its beauty. You can do it by simply oiling them out of season or by simply wiping them with a damp cloth. By oiling them out of season, the wood’s life will be preserved as the wood itself absorbs them. You can also try washing them up with soap and water but make sure they are not finished as the finishing will be removed. You can also just let them look naturally and wait until it colors like silvery gray by not applying finishes or oil on them.

Any wood outdoor furniture of your choice can never be a perfect piece if your comfort isn’t considered first. You will be spending a lot of time lounging on your furniture so make sure you’re comfortable with cushions, armrests, backrests and the like.
